student preparing a college application

The application season officially kicks off on August 1st, when the Common App is released for the Class of 2026. The platform undergoes a reboot on this date, or shortly before (sometimes on July 31).

If your student needs a little help to get ready for application season, please reach out to us. Sometimes students and parents only realize how daunting the college search and application process is after the season has begun.

If we still have space when you reach out, we will be honored to be a part of your child's journey to college!

Here is what you need to know about the Common App reboot.

  What does not roll over

Anything specific to individual colleges will be wiped:

  • “My Colleges” tab: College-specific supplements and essays

  • FERPA release forms

  • Recommender invitations (teacher/counselor recommendations)

  • Scholarship searches or matches

  • Direct admission offers

  • Any deleted or modified questions/fields

  What rolls over

The following will stay after account rollover:

  • Common App tab responses

  • Colleges in your My Colleges list (optional)

  • PDF copies of past applications (if applicable)

Here are some tips directly from the Common App:

"How do I prepare for account rollover?

You should only answer college questions or invite recommenders if you plan to apply before August 1. If you don't plan on applying this application year, you can still preview college questions. You can plan out things like essay responses and which recommenders you'd like to invite. If you’ve already started working in the My Colleges tab, but you don’t plan on applying yet, please be sure to do the following before July 26:

    • Save any responses to college-specific questions or writing supplement questions somewhere outside of Common App. We recommend using Google Drive or similar storage apps.

    • Save your counselor, teacher, and other recommender names and emails somewhere outside of Common App. You will need to re-add and re-invite these people if you intend to apply after August 1.

"How do I rollover my account?

To roll over your account, sign in any time after August 1 with your same username and password. We'll ask you a few questions before moving everything over. If you added any colleges last year, you can choose which ones to keep on your list."
